It was the year 2000. Tinsukia, Upper Assam! Insurgency movements over the last three decades had left a negative impact on the economy of Assam as a whole. Most efficient youth were clueless about their future not to mention the psychological trauma experienced by those who were directly affected. And M/S Security Agency witnessed naissance. An investment of a few thousand rupees with only eight security guards! The brainchild behind the founding of the agency was Sri Gadadhar Chelleng, an ex-serviceman from the Indian Army. A little ray of hope touched the lives of a few.

Youth, unemployment, and insurgency are, to a degree, interlinked. And when employment opportunities are generated, development indeed takes place.

A year later, Hindustan Lever Ltd., now Hindustan Unilever Ltd., set up their unit in the tea garden location of Doom Dooma. The youth of the region found reasons to rejoice. The recruitment drive started with hundreds of efficient youth all geared up for a bright future ahead. Beams in many a visage amid little chaos triggered by insurgency movements and the spasmodic bandhs heralded the beginning of a new verve.

Currently, HUL manufactures personal care products, especially skin creams, shampoo, and toothpaste. The MNC has three manufacturing units in the same vicinity at Doom Dooma. According to a source, plans about setting up of another manufacturing unit worth an investment of about Rs.1000 crores, are soon to be implemented.

There was no looking back for the government registered M/S Security Agency. Sri Gadadhar Chelleng, a rigorously trained soldier, himself undertook the responsibility of training the guards he recruited. And the induction number increased. Many a youth were inspired to seek a career in the security industry as security guards and security officers.

“The setting up of Hindustan Lever Ltd. in Doom Dooma subdivision in the district of Tinsukia is a blessing for the youth of the region. The MNC generated jobs for hundreds of efficient youth. Hindustan Lever Ltd. is one of my biggest clients. Most of the security guards deployed at the HUL site are from my agency,” says an elated Sri Gadadhar Chelleng.

Sri Chelleng took voluntary retirement from the Indian Army on 31st December, 1997 after seventeen years of dedicated service. During his tenure, he served in Sri Lanka as a member of IPKF and also at Mozambique. Sri Chelleng is blessed with two daughters and a son. His wife is a teacher at a government school.

The visionary Sri Chelleng nurtured a dream to bring a difference in the lives of the youth of his locality. When dreams are big and pursued with firm determination and passion, they form a marked silhouette. M/S Security Agency is today a name to reckon with in the security industry in Northeast India. What started from the scratch is today a multi-crore entity with reach spanning across northeast India and Delhi.

Today, over a thousand M/S Security Agency guards are deployed in residences, SMEs, MSMEs, hospitals, banks, offices, factories, MNCs, bank ATMs, tea gardens, schools, institutes, shopping complexes, to name a few. Sri Chelleng is an inspiration for many.

“We follow all government norms and regulations. The salaries we offer are according to government regulations. We provide our guards a range of benefits, besides considering their welfare. Few of the benefits include PF, medical assistance, ESIC, leave wages, bonus, etc. We provide them uniforms for all seasons including accommodation facilities. Besides, we host sports programs for our guards, infusing in them a sense of team spirit and motivating them.

Games include football, kabaddi, cricket, volleyball, indoor games, etc. Many a time, our guards have been the winning team in HUL inter-team sports at the Doom Dooma site. Their winning spirit in sports is a source of motivation for the children and youth in the villages they belong,” says Sri Chelleng.

Every guard recruited at M/S Security Agency undergoes basic and rigorous training. The guards are deployed at the clients’ site only after they are perfectly trained, thus leaving no room for grievances. Areas they are trained in include drill, physical conditioning, personal protection, security patrolling, etiquette, handling of emergencies, unarmed combat, record keeping, armed combat, handling of medical emergencies with first aid, site and risk assessment, emergency planning, and more.
